“in darkness and light” book launch
(An oslo writers league anthology)
The Oslo Writers League, in partnership with Dråpen i Havet, hosted the launch of their fifth anthology, In Darkness and Light, a collection of short stories and poetry exploring life in and out of the shadows. The event was held at Mesh in Oslo.
The members of OWL hope the support they provide will help lift the curtain of darkness that hangs over those fleeing in fear and give them back the freedom to speak, write, sing, and create.
There were some tasty treats to enjoy from local businesses in Oslo.
The founder of Dråpen i Havet, Trude Jacobsen, had a few words to share about the work they do. Dråpen i Havet seeks to bring light to those in their darkest days. The members of OWL believe that all people deserve to be seen and heard, and that though art is often born of hardship, the lack of basic human rights can crush the will to create it. All proceeds from book sales and other funds raised at the event, went to Dråpen i Havet to aid their tireless work with refugees.

(A short extract from the book…)
“No matter how long I live in the North, so many of the pieces that made me are folded from rust-coloured mud and quilted in a patchwork of memories of the South – and this shade of red, this style of blanket, they don’t match the Scandinavian décor.”
