Photographing this birth was a dream come true for me. I have wanted to do a birth photo shoot for as long as I can remember, so when CJ offered me the honour to be a part of the birth of her daughter, I was overwhelmed with joy.
Then the big day arrived. I met CJ at the hospital and we waited for the doctor to call for her, to perform the caesar. The time finally came and we all headed down to surgery where we put on our scrubs and entered the theatre with CJ. The prepping began and CJ’s spirits were high, she was about to meet her baby girl. To try and describe the overwhelming feeling that went through me is impossible. The moment that Ndanatswa appeared was amazing. A new life had joined us in the room and you could feel the love that was felt for that baby girl in every corner of the room.
It was beautiful watching as mom was handed her baby girl for the first time. This is an honour that will stick with me forever, being able to photograph Ndanatswa’s first breath and the first time her mother held her among the other firsts was heartwarming to say the least.
Hospital – Sandton Medi Clinic – thank you to all the doctors and staff who were so friendly and helpful to me in allowing me to photograph these memories for CJ.
